Description

A fast-curing, 100% solids (solvent-free), aromatic, two-component, flexible hybrid polyurea system that can be spray-applied to metal, concrete, wood and other recommended surfaces. Thanks to its fast gelling, it can be applied at ambient temperatures down to -30°C. Care must be taken to ensure that the substrate is dry and that the surface moisture content does not exceed 4%.

DEMCO POLYUREA/HB cures rapidly, with a touch-dry time of less than 30 seconds. With an elongation of 435%, it has a flexible structure and a Shore D hardness of 45–50. Thanks to these properties, it adheres firmly to the surface, seals the surface off from the external environment and prevents water and air permeation; it is resistant to abrasion, vibration and impact.

Features

  • Zero emissions (100% solids)
  • Excellent heat resistance
  • Elastic even at low temperatures
  • High resistance to a range of chemicals
  • Seamless, joint-free, monolithic surface
  • Odorless, tintable, suitable for hygienic environments
  • It is non-reactive after application and has no side effects.
  • Easy to clean

Application Areas

DEMCO POLYUREA/HB is applied indoors and outdoors to provide reliable, flexible waterproofing of structures.

Suitable Substrates

Coating performance and adhesion to the surface are generally directly proportional to surface preparation. Surfaces to be coated must be free of dust, oil, rust, corrosion and other contaminants. The most common cause of problems with surface coatings is inadequate surface preparation. Surface preparation varies according to the application, and so does the primer to be used. Primers may differ depending on both the substrate and the product. To obtain the best results from the application, the recommended products and primers should be used.

The pull-off (adhesion) strength of the substrate should average 1,5 N/mm² and its compressive strength should be at least 25 N/mm²; the moisture content of the concrete should not exceed 4%. All surfaces should be cleaned of dust with industrial vacuum cleaners. On highly absorbent concrete surfaces, 2 coats of primer may be required.

New and old concreteFor good adhesion of DEMCO POLYUREA/HB, the surface must be clean, dry and sound. Dust, dirt, oil, release agents, curing compounds, salts and weak, easily detached particles should be removed from the surface by scarifying, water jetting or sandblasting. The epoxy moisture barrier DEMCO EPOX 110 PR is applied to the cleaned surface. If the old concrete surface is damaged and uneven, or if there are cavities, cracks or voids, it should be repaired with DEMCO EPOX 110 PR primer mixed with sand.
WoodThe surface must be dry and clean, and all loose particles must be removed. Splinters and excessively rough areas must be smoothed, and cracks must be repaired with a mixture of sand and a suitable primer.
Steel (surfaces exposed to atmospheric conditions or water)Oil, grease, weld spatter and sharp edges must be removed from the surface. The surface must be prepared by abrasive blasting in accordance with international standards. To prevent flash rusting, the surface must be primed on the same day it is blasted.
AluminumAluminum surfaces must be cleaned with aluminum oxide or by blasting. Excessive blasting may damage the surface. After blasting, the surface must be cleaned again with a suitable aluminum cleaner, dried and then primed.
Brass and copperBrass and copper surfaces must be sandblasted, and primer must be applied after blasting.
Galvanized surfaceThe surface must not be sandblasted. Oil and dirt on the surface must be removed with a suitable cleaner, and a primer must be applied.
Glass fiber reinforced plastic (polyester)The gelcoat layer should be lightly blasted or sanded with 80-grit sandpaper.
Canvas – fabricCan be applied directly to many fabrics and fibrous structures; no primer required.
Old and new cast ironOn old cast surfaces, adhesion problems may occur due to oil contamination. Surfaces should be shot blasted with steel shot and cleaned of grease and oil.
Other surfacesA preliminary test is recommended before application.

Surface Preparation and Application

  • Component A should be mixed with an air-powered mixer to obtain a homogeneous consistency and color.
  • It is recommended that components A and B be brought to 25°C before application.
  • DEMCO POLYUREA/HB is applied with two-component, heated-hose, 1:1 ratio machines capable of high-pressure spraying (Graco Reactor or other machines).
  • Components A and B must be sprayed at a minimum pressure of 2000 psi and at 65°C. This pressure and temperature must be kept constant at all times.

Application Conditions

  • The substrate must be dry, with a maximum surface moisture content of 4%.
  • Thanks to its rapid gelation, it can be applied at ambient temperatures down to -30°C.
  • Coated surfaces must be protected from water, dew, dust and similar factors for at least 24 hours.
  • In areas continuously exposed to UV radiation, applying a single coat of an aliphatic PU topcoat gives excellent results.

Coverage

Can be sprayed to any desired thickness. The thickness also varies according to the application area. Theoretically, 1,1 kg is sprayed per 1 m² for a thickness of 1 mm.

Storage and Shelf Life

  • Shelf life is 6 months from the date of manufacture, provided the container lids remain unopened.
  • It is recommended to store drums A and B above 15°C.
  • Drums must be stored on wooden pallets to prevent direct contact with the floor.
  • Do not leave in direct sunlight; do not stack pallets.

Packaging

  • DEMCO POLYUREA/HB component A: 200 kg metal drum
  • DEMCO POLYUREA/HB B component: 220 kg metal drum

Safety Precautions

  • Protective clothing, goggles, footwear and gloves must be worn.
  • Avoid contact with skin and eyes; causes irritation.
  • In case of contact with the eyes, mouth or nose, or with the skin, rinse with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes and seek medical attention if necessary.
  • Special rules must be observed during labeling, storage and transport.
  • Keep out of the reach of children.
