Surface Preparation and Application
Surfaces to be coated must be free of oil, rust, dust and similar contaminants. There must be no moisture on the surface to be coated. If the substrate is sheet steel, it must be blasted and then primed with the Surface-Tolerant Primer-Paint (Steel) DEMCO EPOX 148 STEEL or the Solvent-Based Epoxy Primer (Steel) DEMCO EPOX 132 PR/S; if it is wood, it must be cleaned with sandpaper or a floor sanding machine, freed of dust and dried, and then primed with the Solvent-Free Epoxy Impregnating Primer DEMCO EPOX 100 PR. If the substrate is concrete, the surface must be roughened by shot blasting, grinding or milling. The prepared concrete surface must be primed with the Solvent-Free Epoxy Impregnating Primer DEMCO EPOX 100 PR so that it is fully impregnated, following the application instructions. Any cracks and holes in the surface must be repaired with epoxy filler.
Mixing: After mixing component A in its own container, pour the entire B component into component A and mix for at least 3 minutes until the two components form a homogeneous mixture. Mixing at low speed is recommended to prevent air bubbles from forming in the mixture.
Thinning: If necessary, it can be thinned with DEMCO PUR 1000 THINNER at a ratio of 3 – 5%.
This is followed by application of the polyurethane topcoat DEMCO PUR 385 TOP COAT/S by brush, roller or spray gun. To protect against sunlight in outdoor applications and to protect the surface against scratching and soiling in indoor applications, the surface is coated in 1 coat at a consumption of 0,150 kg/m² with the UV-resistant, solvent-based topcoat DEMCO PUR 412 TOP COAT UVS.
CAUTION! Due to its excellent flow properties, it is designed for horizontal floors; as it may run and sag on vertical surfaces, attention should be paid to the application rate.
Application Conditions
- Working area temperature must be 15°C – 30°C.
- The ideal substrate temperature is 15°C – 30°C. The temperature must never be below 10°C.
- For indoor and outdoor applications, substrate temperature, ambient temperature and ambient humidity must be taken into account.
- The relative moisture of the substrate must be below 4% and the ambient humidity below 80%.
- For 24 hours after application, the surface must not be touched or come into contact with water.
- During work, mix suitable quantities and continue working until the entire mix has been used up.
- When applied at 20 – 25°C, DEMCO PUR 385 TOP COAT/S reaches full cure at room temperature in an average of 7 days.
- After the primer coat has been applied, make sure the primer surface is touch-dry; depending on the ambient temperature, DEMCO PUR 385 TOP COAT/S should be applied after approximately 24 hours.
