Description
DEMCO EPOX 133 MID COAT/S is a two-component, solvent-based epoxy intermediate coat for concrete and steel surfaces.
Used as an intermediate coat and topcoat in systems against atmospheric corrosion. It is used particularly for the protection of steel structures. After application of a suitable primer, it also provides excellent adhesion and protection on concrete and wood.
Advantages
- High chemical and mechanical strength
- Ease of application
- Suitable for floors and surfaces where a matte finish is required
- Does not sag on floors and vertical surfaces when applied at 150 g/m²

Surface Preparation and Application
Surface preparation
- Surfaces to be coated must be free of oil, rust, dust and similar contaminants. The surface must be free of moisture, and no loose layer whatsoever may remain.
- If the substrate is sheet steel, it must be blasted and then primed with the Surface-Tolerant Primer-Paint (Steel) DEMCO EPOX 148 STEEL or the Solvent-Based Epoxy Primer (Steel) DEMCO EPOX 132 PR/S.
- Wooden surfaces must be cleaned with a sander or floor sanding machine, freed from dust and dried, and then primed with the Solvent-Free Epoxy Impregnation Primer DEMCO EPOX 100 PR.
- Concrete surfaces should be roughened by shot blasting or scarifying. The prepared concrete surface should be primed with the Solvent-Free Epoxy Impregnation Primer DEMCO EPOX 100 PR, following its application instructions, so that the substrate is impregnated.
- Any cracks and holes in the surface must be repaired using epoxy putty.
Mixing
After component A has been mixed in its own container, all of component B should be poured into component A, and the two components should be mixed for at least 3 minutes until a homogeneous mixture is formed. Mixing at low speed is recommended to prevent air bubbles from forming in the mixture.
Application
- After the primer coat has been applied, make sure the primer surface is touch-dry; depending on the ambient temperature, DEMCO EPOX 133 MID COAT/S should be applied after approximately 24 hours.
- DEMCO EPOX 133 MID COAT/S is applied by brush, roller or spray gun.
- If necessary, it can be thinned by 3 – 5% with DEMCO EPOX 1100 THINNER.
- A suitable amount of mixture should be prepared during work, and work should continue until the entire mixture has been used.
- The cured primer or intermediate coat must be sanded before the topcoat is applied.
Application Conditions
- Working area temperature must be 15°C – 30°C.
- The ideal substrate temperature is 15°C – 30°C. The temperature must never be below 10°C.
- For indoor and outdoor applications, substrate temperature, ambient temperature and ambient humidity must be taken into account.
- The relative moisture of the substrate must be below 4% and the ambient humidity below 80%.
- For 24 hours after application, the surface must not be touched or come into contact with water.
- When applied at 20 – 25°C, the product reaches full cure at room temperature in 7 days on average.
Coverage
A dry film thickness of 45 – 50 µ is achieved with a consumption of 0,150 – 0,200 kg/m² in a single coat.
