Surface Preparation and Application
Surface quality: All surfaces must be sound and dry and have sufficient strength. They must be free from dust, rust, oil, salt and similar contaminants.
Surface preparation:
- Sandblasted steel surfaces: apply the solvent-based epoxy primer Demco® EPOX 132 PR/S.
- Steel surfaces that cannot be sandblasted but have been mechanically cleaned: apply Demco® EPOX 148 STEEL (surface-tolerant primer).
- Wooden surfaces: apply the solvent-free, epoxy-based primer Demco® EPOX 105 PR.
- Composite surfaces: clean and dry the surface, then roughen it by sanding.
Mixing:
- Demco® EPOX 583 is supplied in ready-to-use kits proportioned to the mixing ratio.
- Before mixing, the temperature of the material should be between 15°C and 25°C.
- Pour the entire component B into component A and mix for at least 3 minutes with a low-speed mixer and a suitable mixing paddle.
- Components A and B have different colours. Mix thoroughly until a uniform colour is obtained; no unmixed material should remain on the sides or bottom of the container.
- Mix at low speed to avoid air bubbles forming in the mixture. When mixing by hand, take care to mix equal quantities of the components.
Application:
- After priming, apply Demco® EPOX 583 to the surface with a trowel.
- The surface can be sanded after 24 hours of curing.
Application Conditions
- The surface temperature during application must be between 15°C and 30°C.
- Demco® EPOX 583 is supplied in ready-to-use kits. During work, take care to prepare equal quantities in accordance with the mixing ratio.
- Do not add solvents or similar thinners to the mixture.
- Prepare only as much material as can be used within the working time, and continue working until it has been used up completely.
- After application, protect the surface from moisture, condensation and water for at least 24 hours.
Coverage
For an application thickness of 1 mm, consumption is 1 L/m² (approximately 0.720 kg/m²).
